3A     - Kasimir, DL2SBY will be active as  3A/DL2SBY  from Monaco  on 20-23
         October.  He will operate FT8 and some CW on 30, 20, 17, 12, 10 and
         maybe 6 metres. QSL via LoTW,  or direct only to home call  or Club
         Log's OQRS. He no longer uses the bureau. [TNX OPDX Bulletin]
5R     - The 11-22 October DXpedition to Nosy Be (AF-057)  by  5R8CG, 5R8MM,
         5R8WG and 5R8WP [425DXN #1635]  has had to be postponed,  as one of
         the  team members  tested positive  for COVID-19.  "The final  test
         result (second) came when  we were already driving to the airport",
         Gerben, PG5M says. "We are hoping to reschedule for late November".

A7     - The  Qatar Amateur Radio Society  (QARS)  has announced  that  nine
         special event  callsigns  will be activated  from  18 October to 18
         December to celebrate the 22nd edition of the FIFA World Cup.  Look
         for HQ station A722FWC, as well as for  A71FIFA,  A72FIFA, A73FIFA,
         A74FIFA, A75FIFA, A76FIFA,  A77FIFA and A78FIFA  (each representing
         one of the eight venues  that will host the matches)  to be QRV  on
         the HF bands and via QO-100.  QSL via the bureau, LoTW,  or direct.

         Awards. The FIFA World Cup  is a quadrennial international football
         (soccer) tournament  contested by  the men's national teams  of the
         member  associations  of the  Federation Internationale de Football
         Association.
CT9    - Helmut, DF7EE  and  Georg, DD8ZX  will be active as  CT9/DF7EE  and
         CT9/DD8ZX from Madeira Island (AF-014) from  25 October to 2 Novem-
         ber.  Look for CQ3W (or CR3W)  to be used  during the  CQ WW DX SSB
         Contest,  most likely as a single-operator single-band entry on  15
         or 10m. QSL CT9/DD8ZX via LoTW or home call; QSL CT9/DF7EE via LoTW
         or Club Log's OQRS; QSL CQ3W via LoTW or Club Log's OQRS;  QSL CR3W
         via LoTW or DL5AXX's OQRS (http://www.dl5axx.de/dxlog).
FT_ant - David, F4FKT  will be  active again  from Antarctica  between  late
         October  and  early March 2023.  Main activity  will be during  his
         spare time as FT4YM/p from Concordia Station, operating SSB and FT8
         on 20 and 40 metres.  In addition, he plans to be QRV  sporadically
         as IA0/F4FKT/p from Mario Zucchelli Station  (for a few days during
         the  last week  of October),  as  FT4YM/p  from  Little Dome C,  as
         FT4YM/m  during the traverse from Concordia to the coast,  as FT4YM
         from  Robert Guillard Station  at  Cap Prud'homme,  and finally  as
         as  FT4YM/mm  from  the icebreaker  "L'Astrolabe".  QSL via  F5PFP.

GW     - Weather permitting,  Kev, M0TNX  and  Ron, G4DIY  will be active as
         MC7DX from Holy Island (EU-124) on 15 October, and possibly also on
         the 16th.  They will operate  CW and SSB  on the HF bands.  QSL via

HR     - Alex, K6VHF will be active again as  K6VHF/HR9  from  Roatan Island
         (NA-057) on 27-31 October. He will operate SSB, CW and FT8 on 40-10
         metres,  and  "will specially announce for 6 band operations".  QSL
         via Club Log's OQRS, LoTW, or via home call.
I      - Members of the  Italian Naval Old Rhythmers Club  will be active as
         II0IAR from 24 October to 2 November.  They will operate CW only on

         tion. The special callsign memorializes  Roma Radio (IAR), the main
         Italian coastal radio station whose Morse transmissions closed down
         on 31 October 2005  after  51 years of uninterrupted service.  [TNX

JA     - Moto, JA1GZV will be active as  JS6UKY/6 from  Okinawa Island  (AS-
         017) on 18-25 October. He will operate CW on or around 7011, 10123,
         14011, 18075 and 21011 kHz. QSL via JS6UKY (bureau) or JA1GZV.
JD1_oga- Kou, JP1IHD will be active as JD1BQP from Chichijima (AS-031), Oga-
         sawara from 26 October to 3 November,  including an entry in the CQ
         WW DX SSB Contest.  QSL via the bureau to JD1BQP, or direct only to
         JP1IHD; he will upload his log to LoTW and Club Log.
PA     - Special  event stations  PA60CUBA,  PB60CUBA,  PC60CUBA,  PD60CUBA,
         PG60CUBA and PH60CUBA will be active on  22-23 October  to mark the
         60th  anniversary  of the  Cuban Missile Crisis.  Also joining  the
         event  will  be  PA60BBGB,  PA60EHSB,  PA60HS,  PA60KLE,   PA60KOC,
         PA60NCO,  PA60NN,  PA60NSG,  PA60PARE,  PA60RWS,   PA60YP,  PA6KLD,
         PA898BAT, PC60NCO, PF60PAIL, PF60PENM and PG6PEACE.  QSL via opera-
         tors' instructions.  This project,  which has been developed  since
         2019 in collaboration  with the  Cold War Cultural Heritage Founda-
         tion,  aims at raising "awareness of the technology behind the Cold

PJ4    - PE1OJR  will be active holiday style as PJ4TB from Bonaire (SA-006)
         on 21-31 October. He will operate SSB and FT8 on 40-6 metres,  with
         some activity during the  CQ WW DX SSB Contest.  He will upload his

PJ5    - John, W5JON will be active again as  PJ5/W5JON from  Sint Eustatius
         (NA-145) from 25 October to 1 November. He will operate SSB and FT8
         on 60-6 metres,  and will participate in the  CQ WW DX SSB Contest.

PJ7    - Ed, N2HX will be active again as  PJ7PL from  Sint Maarten (NA-105)
         from 23 October to 10 December,  including an entry in both the  CQ
         WW DX SSB  and  CW Contests.  Outside the contests  he will operate
         holiday style  also on  RTTY and FT8.  QSL via  home call.  [TNX DX

S7     - Wolfgang, OE1MWW  will be active holiday style as  S79/OE1MWW  from
         Mahe (AF-024),  Seychelles on  13-21 October.  He will operate FT4,
         FT8, CW and SSB mainly on 20m. QSL via home call. [TNX DX World]
TA     - The Istanbul based  Tango Alpha Ham Radio Club (YM1KE)  will be QRV
         as TC29EKM on 26-30 October.  QSL via eQSL.  The special callsign's
         suffix stands for 29 Ekim (29 October), the public holiday commemo-
         rating the proclamation of the Republic of Turkey (29 October 1923)
VP5    - Jim, NU4Y and Ron, N4KE  will be active as VP5DX from  North Caicos
         (NA-002) between  20 October and 2 November,  including an entry in
         the CQ WW DX SSB Contest. QSL via LoTW, Club Log's OQRS,  or direct
         to NU4Y.
VP5    - Kan, AB2RF (JJ2RCJ)  will  be active as  VP5Z  from  Providenciales
         (NA-002) on 24-31 October. He will operate FT8 (using MSHV) and FT4
         on 80-10m (see qrz.com for his planned operating frequencies), plus
         some CW  and  RTTY.  QSL via Club Log's OQRS,  LoTW,  or direct  to
         JJ2RCJ.
VP2M   - George, K2DM will be active as VP2MDM from Montserrat (NA-103) from
         25 October to 2 November. He will operate CW, SSB and digital modes
         on  160-10 metres:  "my priority is the  CQ WW DX SSB Contest",  he
         says, "but  I plan  to do  a lot of  FT8/FT4  before and after  the

VQ9    - When  Steve, WB4GHY  arrived  at  Diego Garcia,  Chagos Islands  he
         discovered  that  the  "government official authorized  to dispense
         licenses was no longer there".  Steve had hoped to have his licence
         renewed and be active as VQ9SC [425DXN 1635],  but  "the island has
         lost  all ham radio  licensing info",  he says.  "They just haven't
         done it  in a long time.  They  say  my 2016 license  was  the last
         issued here and nobody is still here from that time period".  Steve
         is there until 16 November, and he fears that the problem cannot be
         solved before  he leaves the island.  For the time being  he is not

CQ DX MARATHON ---> Mark Wohlschlegel, WC3W  has been appointed as  Director
of the CQ DX Marathon. He succeeds John Sweeney, K9EL, who has held the post
since the programme was reinstituted in 2006.  Wohlschlegel will assume  the
management  of the  DX Marathon  (https://www.dxmarathon.com/)  on 1 January
2023.  He "will lead a team to continue the development and growth of the DX
Marathon", K9EL says.  "If you would like  to be a part  of the  DX Marathon
team, please contact Mark right away  (WC3W at dxmarathon dot com).  Mark is
looking  for  a database manager,  web site managers,  software programmers,
etc.".

CROZET 2022-23 ---> Thierry, F6CUK still expects to be at  Alfred Faure base
on Ile de la Possession, Crozet for three months, from late December 2022 to
late March 2023.  His operations  on the HF bands,  however,  might have  to
cease on 26 January, and  it seems that  he will only  be allowed on  QO-100
after that date. Updates are expected in due course. [TNX Les Nouvelles DX]

QSL VIA F6BFH ---> Alain, F6BFH was a close friend of Franz, DJ9ZB (SK).  He
was contacted by the widow and invited to take over the  QSL management  for
the stations that Franz was in charge of.  In addition to the callsigns men-
tioned in 425 DX News #1637,  Alain has been provided documentation also for
4S7VK, 5U7Z, 5W1HX, 7Z1HL, 9U9Z, A35CE,  BV1FA, HZ1DS, HZ1EA, KH8/DK1CE  and
TZ6HY. [TNX F6AJA]

+ SILENT KEY + Anselmo "Elmo" Bernabe Coll, EA5E (ex EA5BYP)  passed away on
9 October.  He was best known for his frequent operations from Bioko Island,
Equatorial Guinea (3C5DX 1998, 3C7Y 2007, 3C9B 2010, 3C6A 2012, 3C4BYP 2014)
and Annobon Island  (3C0R 1999, 3C0V 2003,  3C0M 2006, 3C0C 2010, 3C0E 2012,
3C0BYP 2014).
