YASME: THE FRYING PAN TOWER PROJECT ---> The Board of Directors of the Yasme
Foundation has announced a grant to Kees Van Oosbree, W0AAE and Nathan Wood,
K4NHW, "to support the establishment of a remote-control HF station on the
Frying Pan Tower platform in North Carolina (https://fptower.org).
The intent of establishing the station is to encourage young amateurs to
operate from an interesting location with good propagation. The platform is
also located in FM13 which is mostly water and highly sought-after for grid-
based operating awards.
While Yasme's grant will help establish the station, additional support
will be needed from the ham community to perform maintenance in the salt
environment and keep the station on the air. The operators have established
a GoFundMe account for individual donations:
https://www.gofundme.com/f/frying-pan-t ... hf-project".

ZS8W ---> The website for the ZS8W DXpediton to Marion Island is back up:
https://www.lral.lv/zs8w/index.html. The operation has been approved for
DXCC credit, and the LoTW certificate has been obtained. A full LoTW upload
will be on 15 August.

+ SILENT KEYS + Marek Kraszula, SP3GVX died on 11 June, aged 70. Back in
1996-97, 1999-2000, 2004-05 and 2007-08 he was a wintering crew member at
the Henryk Arctowski Station on King George Island (South Shetlands), and
was active as HF0POL. In 2002-03 he wintered at the Polish Polar Station in
Hornsund, Spitsbergen (Svalbard), where he operated as JW0HU.
One day later, on 12 June, another Antarctic veteran passed away: Pavlo P.
Budanov, UX2HO, aged 65. In 1997-98, 2001-02 and 2004-05, while wintering at
the Akademik Vernadsky Station on Galindez Island (AN-006), he was active as
EM1HO and distributed nearly 115,000 QSOs.
Wolfgang Hadel, DK2OM passed away on 17 June at the age of 79. "He was one
of the most dedicated and distinguished guardians of the amateur radio
frequency spectrum, championing the protection of amateur radio bands with
expertise, perseverance and passion for decades", Tom Kamp, DF5JL writes.
"With technical sensitivity and an almost detective-like intuition, he iden-
tified sources of interference, such as over-the-horizon radars, military
data links, illegal stations and poorly suppressed switching power supplies.
His well-founded reports were feared not by radio amateurs, but by those
responsible for unauthorised transmissions, which he documented and reported
with meticulous precision. He stopped numerous international disturbances on
his own initiative, often within a few days". [https://www.iaru-r1.org]
