3Y0Z: BOUVET 2018 ---> The 3Y0Z team will be active as 3G9A/mm during their
voyage aboard the MV Betanzos from King George Island (South Shetlands) to
Bouvet. QSL via N2OO. The team will be using a satellite tracking device
that will enable you to follow their progress on a near-real time map:
https://share.garmin.com/bouvet.

IDXC 2018 ---> Registration for the 69th Annual International DX Convention,
to be held on 20-22 April at the Visalia Convention Center in Visalia (CA),
will begin on 15 January at 17 UTC: http://www.dxconvention.org/.

IOTA NEWS ---> "The last date for mailing applications or updates to
checkpoints for inclusion in the 2018 Honour Roll and other performance
tables is 31 January 2018", G3KMA posted to https://iota-world.org/. "If
postmarked after that date, they will be processed in the normal way but the
scores will be held over to the following year's listing. It is important
that participants who have not updated since the 2013 annual listings and
wish to remain listed should make a submission on or before 31 January 2018.
Of interest this year is that in addition to the 2017 IOTA Contest logs a
much larger number of logs of IOTA operations on Club Log have recently been
made available for QSO matching". It is possible to get IOTA credits through
QSO matching for irregular log names. To facilitate this, the log names are
now listed on the accepted activations tab. In order to get a match for
AA1AA/P on XX-yyy with the log name AA1AA/P_XX-yyy, the chaser must upload
to Club Log a QSO with the callsign AA1AA/P_XX-yyy. Once the match is
obtained, the system will automatically use the proper callsign in the
subsequent credit application. For any questions contact [email protected]

SWODXA DX DINNER ---> The 33rd DX Dinner, sponsored again by the SouthWest
Ohio DX Association (SWODXA) and held in conjunction with the 2018 Dayton
Hamvention, will be on Friday, 18 May at the Marriott Hotel in Dayton.
Dinner tickets can be ordered by going to www.swodxaevents.org; programme
details and a list of the prizes will be on the website as they become
available. [TNX W8GEX]

VOACAP ---> Jari, OH6BG is "happy to introduce a new functionality at the
VOACAP Online P2P (poit-to-point) HF propagation prediction service
(http://www.voacap.com/p2p), namely assessment of the Best Operating
Frequencies for every hour of the day for the circuit chosen. This means
That all ham radio bands are being considered and, after a careful
evaluation, the three best bands will be displayed, together with some
VOACAP prediction data. To use the new service, just click on the new button
labeled 'Best FREQ', located just below the graphs on the front page". More
information can be found on https://voacap.blogspot.com.

ZS8Z QRT ---> David, ZS8Z (ZS1BCE) uploaded his last QSO to Club Log on 19
November 2017, and has been off the air from Marion Island since then.
According to the South African Sunday Times, the 20-people science mission
on the island "is stranded with an 'unstable' team member, a faulty
generator and a critical food shortage". Reportedly an Indian relief ship is
on the way with food and fuel, but David is unlikely to get back on the air
before departing Marion in May.

+ SILENT KEYS + We mourn the tragic loss of David Collingham, K3LP, who died
on 5 January after falling through the ice on a pond while attempting to
rescue his stranded dog. He was 59 years old. First licensed in 1975, he was
very active in DXpeditions, contesting, youth development and charity
projects. He visited over 100 different DXCC Entities, operated from 63 of
them and participated in over 75 DXpeditions - 3D2DC (Fiji 2004 and 2011),
T33C (Banaba 2004), T30LP (West Kiribati 2004), K3LP/KP5 (Desecheo 2005),

Hans-Rudolf "Rudi" Lauber, HB9RG passed away on 26 December at 92 years
of age. "Rudi was a multi-faceted ham and active in many different
disciplines of our hobby", Pete, HB9PL says. "He not only held an
astonishing score of first VHF/UHF contacts between Switzerland and the rest
of Europe as well as beyond, but was initiator, sponsor and driving wheel of
a group of enthusiast who in the second half of the fifties realised the
first EME QSOs out of Switzerland. During the last few decades he shifted
his activities towards DX and achieved DXCC Honor Roll No.1 status (339/358
Mixed) in remarkably short time. His sincere, eloquent, competent and
helpful manners will be widely missed".
