                         >>> 3Y0Z: BOUVET ISLAND <<<

After experiencing strong winds and turbulent seas, the 3Y0Z DXpedition
arrived at Bouvet on 31 January at around 6 UTC, and dropped anchor off the
east side of the island. On 1 February winds were 35-45 knots and the ship
was pitching and rolling up to 30 degrees, which made flying and a landing
attempt impossible. In the local morning of 2 February the situation had not
sufficiently improved, and the forecast does not very promising [1]. Plans
are to get everything ashore as quickly as possible when a weather window
opens, "with never more people than our infrastructure can support". The
"first strike team" will have to select and secure a site, and will include
EY8MM, K0IR and Alejo Contreras Steading (Antarctic explorer, guide and
mountaineer).

FT8 will not be a primary mode for 3Y0Z, but it will be used only "when we
cannot use the standard, higher rate modes", i.e. "when the band dies, or
before it opens". The FT8 transmit frequencies will be 1835, 3570, 5357,
7071, 10133, 14067, 18095, 21067, 24912, 28067 and 50316 kHz. 3Y0Z will
transmit low in the passband (200-400 Hz) and LISTEN UP: set your transmit
frequency higher in the passband, and be certain your TX and RX frequencies
are not locked together. Detailed guidelines for FT8 are available on
http://www.bouvetdx.org/band-plan-frequencies/ ("Ten Steps on How to Work
3Y0Z (Bouvet) With FT8").

LOTW & WAZ AWARD--- > Beta testing for bringing CQ Magazine's Worked All
Zones (WAZ) award program into ARRL's Logbook of the World (LoTW) system
continues to move forward. Some problems in the implementation were
discovered by testers and have since been corrected; the documentation has
also been improved by feedback from the testers. In parallel, the LoTW
server has been executing a background task that creates and populates a WAZ
account for each LoTW user. Beta testing will continue until this background
task completes. When all WAZ accounts have populated, LoTW-WAZ will be made
available to everyone. The goal is for operators to be able to directly
submit LoTW confirmations for WAZ credit. Standard LoTW credit fees and
separate CQ award fees will apply. [TNX ARRL]

Z60A ---> Project Goodwill Kosovo is moving into its second week. In total,
hams from 10 countries will participate in the project's current phase. "The
40,000 QSO mark has been passed as the team is concentrating on maximizing
its Asia and North America numbers", the team reported on 30 January. "They
are well on their way by penetrating those selective openings. Be patient,
as their best effort is given at all times in spite of the high noise level.
As the locations are fixed, the only improvement opportunity is to see
whether low-laid receiving antennas would help with this mission. The second
week team will try to accomplish that task as they move toward the upcoming
weekend.
Many are asking about an immediate LoTW upload during the operation, and
these options are being taken under consideration. An LoTW upload and early
QSL card may be considered as an additional service, while its modest
compensation would be exclusively directed to further support for evolving
Amateur Radio in Kosovo".
